Luca Marini, half-brother of Valentino Rossi, began his career in the Italian CIV series before moving to the Spanish CEV Moto3™ series in 2013. In 2015, he transitioned to the Moto2™ European Championship, where he quickly impressed with the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 Junior team. Following a series of aggressive rides in 2016, consistently finishing in the top five, he made his full-time debut in the World Championship with the Forward Racing team, where he remained in 2017.
A move to the Sky Racing Team VR46 in 2018 brought Marini his best season yet, with five podium finishes, including his first Grand Prix victory in Sepang. Despite a challenging start due to shoulder surgery, he performed well in 2020, but a serious crash in the French GP cost him his title chances, ultimately finishing second in the championship.
In 2021, Marini made the jump to the MotoGP™ class with Esponsorama Racing, initially struggling to adapt. However, he secured a front-row start in Misano and a top-five finish in Austria. The 2022 season saw him consistently perform with seven top-six finishes, but he still missed out on his first premier-class podium.
The turning point came in 2023 when Marini achieved his first MotoGP™ podium at the Americas GP. He would go on to stand on the podium four more times during the Sprint races and once more on Sunday in Qatar. It has been announced that for 2024, he will replace Marc Marquez at Repsol Honda, further continuing his rise in the premier class.
